The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda, Hon. Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, has concluded a successful Working Visit to South Africa at the invitation of the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Hon. Ronald O. Lamola.

The visit marked an important step in the continued normalization and strengthening of relations between Rwanda and South Africa. The Ministers reviewed progress made through ongoing diplomatic engagements and reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening cooperation for the benefit of both countries and the African continent.

A key outcome of the visit was the agreement to revive the Joint Commission of Cooperation (JCC), with Rwanda set to host the next session in the first quarter of 2027. The Ministers further agreed to accelerate efforts aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to building a forward-looking partnership founded on mutual trust and cooperation for mutual benefit.

Recognizing the importance of facilitating travel, trade, investment, tourism, academic exchanges, and people-to-people relations, the Ministers agreed on the resumption of visa issuance to holders of ordinary Rwandan passports, within twelve months.

The Ministers further committed to strengthening economic cooperation and enhancing private sector engagement. They also exchanged views on regional peace and security issues, including developments in eastern DRC, Mozambique, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, and the Sahel, reaffirming their support for African-led solutions to African challenges.

The Government of Rwanda welcomes the outcomes of the Working Visit and looks forward to working closely with South Africa to advance a renewed partnership that promotes peace, prosperity, and regional integration.
