Rwanda High Commission Hosts Inaugural “Visit Rwanda” Golf Day in South Africa
The event reflected Rwanda’s growing use of sports diplomacy to foster deeper regional and economic partnerships. As guests engaged across the greens, the day sparked important conversations around trade, tourism, and investment, all while showcasing Rwanda’s unique value proposition on the continent.
“Are There Gorillas in the Woods?”
The event’s signature question, “Are there gorillas in the woods?”, playfully referenced Rwanda’s iconic tourism offering while challenging guests to look beyond stereotypes. Rwanda, the message suggested, is not just a place to visit but a country to partner with, built on resilience, strategy, and inclusive growth.
A Message of Partnership from the High Commissioner
In his keynote address, H.E. Emmanuel Hategeka, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to South Africa, drew parallels between golf and diplomacy: “Not every swing is seen. But every turn and swing matters. That is Rwanda’s philosophy; deliberate, resilient, and focused on outcomes that are mutually beneficial.”
He invited guests to see Rwanda not only as a tourism gem but as a destination for long-term investment and collaboration. Key sectors highlighted included:
Strategic Partnerships at the Forefront
The event’s success was made possible through the generous support of key partners. MTN served as the title sponsor, joined by Fachs Insurance Brokers, Fidelity Verification, RwandAir, the Rwanda Development Board, the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), and the Radisson Blu Hotel and Convention Centre Kigali.
Celebrating Rwanda’s Warmth and Excellence
The prize-giving dinner capped off the day with elegance and purpose. Guests were treated to Rwanda’s signature hospitality, with business and economy class flights, luxury hotel stays, and premium tea and coffee gift hampers on offer. The evening reflected not only Rwanda’s cultural warmth but also its strategic intent to build lasting relationships.
Looking Ahead
In his closing remarks, the High Commissioner noted, “This is not the end of a tournament. It is the beginning of a conversation, one that extends far beyond the fairways of Woodhill.”
He encouraged continued engagement between South Africa and Rwanda, inviting guests to explore the opportunities that lie just a four-hour flight away.
“RwandAir awaits. The land of a thousand hills, a million smiles, and boundless opportunity is ready to welcome you.”
