Rwanda Reinforces MICE Positioning at Meetings Africa 2025

Rwanda Reinforces MICE Positioning at Meetings Africa 2025

Rwanda has once again affirmed its status as Africa’s rising MICE powerhouse, securing prestigious accolades at Meetings Africa 2025, held from February 24–26 at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg. The annual event, a flagship business tourism showcase, brought together over 410 exhibitors and 300 international hosted buyers, fostering global partnerships and collaboration in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry.

Rwanda Convention Bureau Wins Gold in the Large Stands Category

A major highlight of Rwanda’s participation was the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) winning Gold in the Large Stands Category Green Awards, coming second only to Western Cape, which took home the Platinum Award. This recognition reflects Rwanda’s commitment to sustainable event hosting, cutting-edge exhibition design, and its growing reputation as a top-tier destination for global business events.

This achievement follows the Kigali Convention Centre being named "Rwanda’s Best Convention Centre 2024" by the World MICE Awards, further cementing Rwanda’s credentials as a leader in business tourism, world-class infrastructure, and sustainability-driven conference planning.

Global Recognition and High-Profile Engagements

The event was officially opened by Hon. Patricia de Lille, South Africa’s Minister of Tourism, who visited the #MeetInRwanda Pavilion and engaged with Rwandan MICE stakeholders. She praised Rwanda’s impressive presence, its strategic role in the African business tourism market, and its continued investment in the sector.

The #MeetInRwanda Pavilion served as a hub for high-level business interactions, attracting international hosted buyers, event organizers, and global tourism professionals. Rwanda’s delegation showcased:

  • World-class event venues –Kigali Convention Centre, BK Arena, Intare Arena, Kigali Cultural Village and Exhibition Centre and a range of luxury accommodations tailored for conferences and exhibitions.
  • Seamless event planning solutions – A robust MICE ecosystem supported by expert planners, efficient logistics, and modern infrastructure.
  • Sustainability leadership – Rwanda’s strong eco-tourism policies, including green initiatives that position it as a global model for responsible business tourism.
  • Strategic networking opportunities – Facilitating B2B meetings and building partnerships to attract international events.

Why Rwanda is Africa’s Leading MICE Destination

Rwanda’s MICE sector continues to thrive, driven by a visionary approach to business tourism. A few key factors that set Rwanda apart include:

  • Strategic Location & Accessibility – Visa-on-arrival for all nationalities, direct flight connections to major hubs, and a well-developed transport infrastructure.
  • Unmatched Safety & Security – Consistently ranked among Africa’s safest destinations, offering peace of mind for international delegates.
  • Sustainability & Conservation Leadership – From banning single-use plastics to hosting carbon-neutral events, Rwanda is at the forefront of eco-conscious tourism.
  • Proven Track Record – Host to major international events, including CHOGM, Africa CEO Forum, and the FIA Awards 2024, the latter marking the first time the event was held on the African continent at Kigali’s BK Arena.

Looking Ahead: Rwanda’s MICE Growth Trajectory

With its continued investment in world-class venues, sustainability-focused tourism, and strategic global partnerships, Rwanda is well-positioned to attract more international conferences, exhibitions, and incentive travel groups in 2025 and beyond.

As the Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) continues to champion the country’s MICE sector growth, global event planners and investors are encouraged to explore Rwanda’s unique business tourism offerings.
